Eat/Drink TT Liquor Shop

TT Liquor: turning dungeons into to drinking dens

Liquor store, cellar bar, cocktail making classes, tasting experiences and a mobile bar hires. If the word “multi-faceted” springs to mind, then you’d be on point as TT Liquor is precisely that. The latest addition to East London’s already-thriving nightlife & dining scene, TT Liquor is a sophisticated establishment embracing all things cocktails.

Sounds like our kinda place.

And who’s to thank for said amusement park of hooch? The blokes behind Discount Suit Company and The Sun Tavern are of course. Set across three floors, the former police station promises quite the experience. Entering the site on ground level, prepare to drop your jaw at the sheer volume of liquor for sale in such a small space. The well-stocked shop sells over 1,000 liquors, with the option for taking home or drinking in. There are even mini-boxes available with padlocks for your own safe keeping in-house, for a tipple next time you visit.

Swing past the wooden doors through to the back rooms, where visitors can really submerge themselves in interactive cocktail masterclasses. Expert mixologists will instruct on everything it shakes takes to make the perfect cocktail, plus stir more.  Each individual has their own bar station replete with the necessary equipment; sampling is, of course, required. Vouchers are available too (* hint ^ hint* our birthday’s in May).

Downstairs in the clandestine cocktail bar, the carefully curated drinks menu is designed around important eras in the history of the cocktail. Off to the side (and further into the eerie depths), historic prison cells have been converted into areas for Tasting Experiences. Hosted by one of the in-house “connoisseurs”, knowledge of your chosen liquor will be further developed as you indulge in small plates of food that have been wisely selected to complement the drinks.

These bespoke affairs are perhaps our favourite of the booze-related activities around.

In fact, we think that TT Liquor is one of our favourite booze-related venues full stop. Not only is it run by a team of really fun, smart, friendly staff, but the space has an oddball atmosphere, retaining its charm and curiosity of its former incarnation. It’s a good spot for groups, and also adequately dark enough for those first dates…

Here’s to TT liquor scoring a long, prosperous life on Kingsland Road. And unlike the prisoners, we’re more than happy to spend time downstairs.

About the Author

Admittedly a coffee addict, this London-residing Aussie lady loves to write about anything (well, perhaps not medical science, but you could give her a shot at it…). As well as an eye for typos, she’s a fiend for good food, good friends and a (large) glass of red wine. From gallivanting across the globe, to discovering hidden secrets in London, Aimee is just as at home navigating the airport as she is with a game of scrabble and some 90s pop music.
